Today we are delighted to be joined by Historian Dan Snow. The TV presenter and Author known as the History Guy first came to public attention after making El Alamein and the BAFTA winning BBC TV series Battlefield Britain. Since then he has adorned our screens educating us about history which he thinks is “the is the most exciting thing that has ever happened to anyone on this planet!”
His enthusiasm and fascination is infectious leading to a growing public interest in learning about our history. Other programmes over the years include Britain’s Lost World, 50 Things You Need to Know about British History, Hadrian, and the recent Filthy Cities.
In the midst of his busy work schedule Dan makes time to be an active citizen, as his heroic acts defending his local community during the London Riots this week showed. In addition to this he was a supporter of electoral reform during the recent referendum. Frustrated with the portrayed confusion over the issues, he made a video explaining why the Alternative Vote is fairer than the First Past The Post voting system that we currently have, using the analogy of a group of friends voting on if to go to the pub or the coffee shop.
Here we ask Dan to share the Future that he Chooses and his ideas of how we can all help to create it.
?!X: What’s the Future You Choose?
DS: One in which there is greater equality of opportunity from the earliest age.
?!X: What’s a ‘think’ to create this future?
DS: The documentary on schooling in the USA called ‘Waiting for Superman’ is a brilliant start.
?!X: What’s an ‘act’ to create the future you choose?
DS: Become a governor at your local school
