?!X: What’s The Future You Choose?

JS: I choose a future where we harness the exponential progress of emerging technologies to address humanity’s grand challenges. Singularity University in Silicon Valley was founded to inform people about “exponential change” and how these tools can he used to help a BILLION PEOPLE…. our brains evolved in a world that was linear and local and now we live in world that is global and exponential. It means that a person with a cell phone in Africa today has better communication access than the US president did 15 years.  David Pearce who wrote The Hedonistic Imperative speaks of “paradise engineering”… it means we use technology as the means to being into being our linguistic intent.  We do create the world, and just need to get better at it.

?!X: What’s a ‘think’  to create this future?

JS: I think we need to create incentives for innovation. The world is changing very fast… we are moving into the revolutions of biotechology and nanotechnology… physicist Freeman Dyson says “in the future a new generation of artists will be writing genomes with the fluency that Blake and Byron wrote verses.”  Soon we will be reprogramming our biology.   Life itself is the new canvas for aesthetic design.   We are moving into a world of infinity in all directions.   I think people need to realize we’ve never had more powerful tools to change the world.   So lets change it!

?!X: What’s an ‘act’ to create the future you choose?

JS: I think we need to comprehend that we are moving into a post-geographical world… time and distance don’t have to be barriers of participation… creed, religion, etc are obsolete.. The internet connects our MINDS directly and we can form new communities based on shared passions… collaboration and cooperation expanding at exponential rates..   I think we need to cultivate and curate our social networks well just so we don’t get overwhelmed by the “vertigo of freedom”.

?!X: What’s a ‘vote’ to create the future you choose?

JS: I would urge people to get involved with Singularity UniversitySpacecollective.org is a great forum for participation on new forward-thinking ideas concerning the future of humanity.

?!X: What’s your favourite song and why?

JS: I love listening to the Gattaca soundtrack… instrumental gorgeousness… It’s sublime
