Lucie Barat
Lucie Barât is the founder of Little Episodes – an independent publisher and arts production company run by both established and emerging artists. Little Episodes believe that all talent is equal regardless of commercial success. Little Episodes artists provide themselves and others with a platform while using their art (in its various forms) to raise awareness of important causes. Lucie has recently been recognised for her role in shaking up the arts and media with her nomination to One World Action‘s ‘One Hundred Women: The Unseen Powerful Women Who Change The World.’
Lucie is a true creative talent – an actress, singer/song writer, poet, author and screen writer – currently in development with nbc universal, co-writing a TV series with Sadie Frost.
?!X: What’s the Future You Choose?
LB: I choose a future with fewer onuses placed on commercial success. It would be nice to live without so many of our children and young people believing self worth exists at the end of an X-Factor audition queue. I am an artist, so my priorities lay with the promotion of the arts and making the artistic industries more accessible to emerging artists and unknown talent. I would choose a world with less ‘human branding’ and more space for interesting and talented artists to come through that haven’t just been picked for consumption by some marketing body or other… maybe I’m an art communist 😉
I would also like to see a world that gives more time to its elderly, to those afflicted with mental health problems or addiction or any kind of disability. I’d like to see more tolerance toward the LGBT community and family units that are different from the norm… I run the risk of waffling naively about world peace here – but what I’d really like is for society to feel they’re able to challenge mainstream views and opinions rather than sit back in apathy and be content with ‘mob thinking’.

?!X: What’s an ‘act’ to create the future you choose?
LB: An ‘act’ would be to find other like-minds and create. Not to sit around waiting for that record contract/book deal/audition etc but to take what you do directly to an audience. If all the out-of-work artists got together and did it themselves, they would rival all the massive record companies/studios etc. Artists should collaborate rather than compete.
If you enjoy art (in all/any of its forms) you can be more selective in your choices and not just pick mainstream options. You can give people a voice and be encouraged to have yours heard.

?!X: Future Soundtrack – What song would you take with you into the future?
LB: I’d take ‘In the Mood’, Glenn Miller band – you can’t see where you’re going if you don’t know where you’ve been and sometimes the golden oldies are comforting. This reminds me of my grandparents.
