Grazia magazine recently heralded Zara Martin as the ‘one to watch’. A sentiment echoed by a multitude of high-end publications – she has recently been featured in ELLE, Look, Company magazine, Tatler, Marie Claire and The Independent to name but a few, and is also a regular on international ‘best dressed’ lists for her unique sense of style. TV presenter and model by day, by night Zara Martin can be found behind the DJ booth providing the tunes for high profile brands including Playboy, Fendi, New Look, T4, William Tempest, London Fashion Week, The Hoxton Pony, Haagen Dazs and the infamous Experimental Cocktail Club. The multi-talented Zara writes, produces and presents all her own work. Her passions lie in fashion and music on which she writes a blog. However, her interests are varied and she has graduated with a degree in Economics and Business. Zara has covered a wide range of topics in her work to date; she has hosted shows such as Future Superpowers, Britishness, Between the Sheets and Skin Deep, which were all for Al Gore’s Emmy Award Winning cable network Current TV. Zara thrives on live TV and has interviewed numerous talents including Cheryl Cole, Yoko Ono and Piers Morgan. She is also accomplished at hosting live events; she is the official host of London Fashion Weekend.
Following a successful collaboration with fashion house, BodyAmr, for Elephant Parade London (a charity Zara sits on the committee of) she launched her first fashion line – the “BodyAmr & Zara Martin” seven piece capsule collection on schedule at London Fashion Week. It was a great success and sold out at retailers after her dresses were worn by Kylie Minogue, Cheryl Cole & Florence Welch. She is now in talks with other labels who are keen to have her lend her flair for design – watch this space. Spring/Summer 2011 saw Zara star in campaigns of the well-known British label, Olivia Rubin, as well as luxury shoe brand, Mechante of London. She is currently an ambassador for Fashion Rocks and come Autumn/Winter 2011-12 Zara will be the face of UK high street giant New Look’s Idol Collection.
?!X: What’s the Future You Choose?
ZM: The future I choose involves justice, acceptance and free (eco-friendly) taxis for the elderly/those in high heels.
?!X: What’s a ‘think’ to create this future?
ZM: Music and access to information/education are massively important to the future I would like to see. Music is a medium that is able to inspire and unify; and information and education as we simply cannot evolve without it.
?!X: What’s an ‘act’ to create the future you choose?
ZM: Letting go of fear.
?!X: What’s a ‘vote’ to create the future you choose?
ZM: It’s so easy to get frustrated with the world, our lives and everyday problems that you forget there are those who don’t even have access to basic human rights such as clean water. My ‘vote’ goes to Fresh2o – an incredible organisation that is helping raise awareness, and funds for the global provision of clean water and sanitation. I’m extremely proud and honoured to be a part of their campaign.
