“We can’t create a beautiful future by bypassing everything we don’t like and creating a fake utopia that sits on top of it. There’s a lot of power in our darkness and that’s often where the treasure is.” – Amisha Ghadiali

About this interview:

How do we recognise the golden threads that weave together a full and inspired life?

In this episode, our show notes writer Lucy White sits down with the founder and host of the podcast Amisha Ghadiali so that you can tune into where this project has come from. Amisha shares the story of the different threads running through her life that are lovingly woven together in The Future Is Beautiful book and podcast.

What Amisha is offering with this podcast and everything she does is permission to be human, to live beyond silos, and to allow the different elements of our inner and outer life to be present in all we do. She is interested in the full spectrum of our experience, honouring and celebrating our challenges as well as our joy.

Amisha grew up in an Indian family in the rolling hills of Derbyshire (where Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is famously set), attending psychiatric conferences with her parents as a child and choosing her clothes before she could speak. After studying politics at university she dove straight in the deep end of Politics, working on a series of high-profile campaigns in the US and UK.

A ‘trilogy of epic accidents’ between the ages of 19 and 24 woke Amisha up to wider aspects of reality, the Self, and an understanding of the subtlety of life. She felt the call to slow down and reconnect with her creativity, which led her to establish an ethical jewellery label with the tagline Elegance Rebellion and become a pioneer of the sustainable fashion movement.

In the run-up to the 2010 election, Amisha was looking at politics and activism in a new way. Seeing that the democratic system was broken, she created an alternative ballot box – inviting people to vote for the future they choose and interviewing them about their vision, giving everyone who encountered the project empowerment to realise that we are all creating the future that we choose through the way in which we live our values. These interviews and the creative activism projects formed the basis for the book from which this podcast has grown.

In 2012 Amisha recognised she had to allow her spirituality to be at the centre of her life and embrace, although somewhat reluctantly, the consequences of that unavoidable reorientation. From there everything opened up quickly and paved the way for the yoga and meditation retreats she facilitates now and the intuitive therapy sessions and presence mentoring she offers.

Together Amisha and Lucy discuss learning to embrace and enter willingly into our darkness and the collective shadows we all hold. Furthermore, how to get in touch with our core intuition in order to transform our deepest and earliest patterning – and of course how all of this can lead us to a wide open beautiful future.

“I feel like this relationship between the inner and the outer is key. We need to be vigilant to be awake to both of them. If you are drawn more spiritually, be careful of bypassing and all the trappings of getting too lost in the light. If we are drawn to activism we’ve got to also be careful about projecting our pain and story too much into what’s going on – burning ourselves out, making a mess, not being aligned in our values.”  ~Amisha Ghadiali

Amisha is an activist, yoga facilitator and intuitive healer – interested in where our inner and outer worlds meet. She hosts the globally acclaimed podcast All That We Are (fka The Future Is Beautiful) which weaves together Politics, Spirituality, Creativity and Sustainability. The show offers deep, insightful, unedited conversations with fascinating and diverse guests, calling forth a challenging and open ended narrative for our expanding worlds. Amisha holds Yoga workshops and Rituals across the world, which bring together Mantra, Asana, Meditation, Mudra, Mythology, Dance, Philosophy, Activism, Energy clearing and deep dives into the psyche. She leads retreats and immersive experiences including annual pilgrimages to India (her native land) and Wild Grace: A Heroine’s Journey. Amisha works one-to-one with her intuitive therapy and through her Presence Mentoring programme which supports you in clearing unconscious patterning, opening up new qualities within, and anchoring daily practice and rituals which support your lifestyle. A big part of her ‘Yoga’ is exploring how we relate to the world around us and embody our values at this challenging time. Amisha’s background is in Politics, Design, and Sustainable Fashion. She created the collaborative book, The Future Is Beautiful – A Collection from Think Act Vote, coining the term Creative Activism and bringing together ideas and artwork from over two hundred contributors to inspire a brighter future. She is currently writing a new book called Style & Presence which brings together a decade of research (and a lifetime of personal experience) exploring our relationship with self-worth, the worth of the world and how these two things are connected.
