“I think that critical review of spiritual teachings is essential to the preservation of the species – just like critical review of everything really – but I also think we need active co-creation of new frameworks and models.” ~ Jeff Brown

About this interview:

How can we stay grounded on our spiritual journey?

In this episode, Amisha is in conversation with author, teacher, Enrealment Activist, and Grounded Spiritualist Jeff Brown. Together they discuss the dangers of dissociative spiritual practices, as well as the cultures and individuals that encourage these practises for individuals carrying unresolved trauma.

Jeff shares stories of his own spiritual journey and the experiences that led him to his current practises of embodiment, ‘enrealment’ and integration. He explains why embodied psychotherapy holds our greatest hope for healing and self-realization, how he made a spiritual practice of betting on horses at the races, and the myriad problems with patriarchal spirituality.

Together Amisha and Jeff discuss some of the ways we dissociate and absent ourselves in the name of becoming present, and how we can learn instead to hold on to the threads of ever more diverse realities. They speak about the tools and techniques we must develop in our society to allow people to move into and through the trauma held in their bodies, rather than dissociate to find relief from their suffering.

“As much as I don’t like the idea that I am carrying traumatic material that’s unresolved, I think the fact that I can feel something is a step forward for humanity, rather than taming all these thoughts and feelings without resolving them and calling that awakening.” ~ Jeff Brown

A former criminal lawyer and psychotherapist, Jeff Brown is the author of 5 popular books: Soulshaping: A Journey of Self-Creation, Ascending with Both Feet on the Ground, Love It Forward, An Uncommon Bond, and Spiritual Graffiti. He is also the producer and primary journeyer in the award winning spiritual documentary, Karmageddon, which also stars Ram Dass, Seane Corn, David Life, Deva Premal and Miten. Jeff is also the founder of Soulshaping Institute and Enrealment Press.
