“This evolutionary doorway that we have the potential to step through is about interbeing, and that means not separating anything out – not separating ourselves from each other, ourselves from the earth, the inner from the outer, the dark from the light. You can’t step into that place without also doing this work of embracing all of it.” ~ Justine Huxley

About this interview:
How can we hold awareness of the interbeing of all things in the face of crisis?
In this episode, Amisha sits down with Justine Huxley, Director of St Ethelburga’s Centre for Peace and Reconciliation in London.
Justine shares her experience of doing the work of deep adaptation in the face of complex global challenges and looming societal collapse. She speaks about allowing the facts of what we face to come all the way in, to be internalised and for us to come into relationship with them. She shares her personal exploration of how to stay open to the redemption and transformation that crisis and suffering can bring.
Justine shares a little about her own spiritual tradition – about learning to relate to the mystery that runs beneath all of reality and the exploration that led her to view the world through a lens of unity and the interbeing of all things. She speaks about her work at St Ethelburga’s with the younger generation, and her own feelings and experiences as an activist of several decades.
Together Amisha and Justine spend some time with the many paradoxes that make up our internal and external world, exploring how we might hold them from a perspective of wholeness and non-duality. They speak about what it means to engage in sacred activism at this time, bringing together the regenerative spark of the younger generation with the resources and power of the older generation to tackle the challenges we face.
“When we bring the whole of ourselves to the needs of the moment, it’s like a key that unlocks something. No matter how small, if we bring all of ourselves to that need there’s an interaction between those two things. The wholeness in us meets the wholeness in life and something gets unlocked in that.” ~ Justine Huxley
Justine Huxley is Director of St Ethelburga’s Centre for Peace and Reconciliation, where she leads on vision, strategy, management and fundraising. Her raison d’etre is bringing people together and co-creating innovative projects rooted in worldview of interdependence. Her biggest achievement is building a dedicated and passionate team, who she feels privileged to work alongside. She has a Ph.D in psychology and her first job (usefully) involved training an impossibly grumpy camel on a small Danish island. Her first book, Generation Y, Spirituality and Social Change is a reflection of six years of work with the younger generation at St Ethelburga’s. Justine gives workshops and keynotes on: faith and the future; sacred activism; building resilience for a dystopian world; peace-making and conflict transformation and the role of inner work in effective social change.
