“The arts is a human manifestation of the universe reflecting on and celebrating itself. We are the unspooling of the creative dynamics of galaxies. Creativity is part of our birthright and integral to who we are as beings in this cosmos.” ~ Drew Dellinger

About this interview:

What is the role of creativity in our times?

In this episode Amisha meets poet, writer and teacher Drew Dellinger.

Drew shares his understanding of the role for poetry in our times, and the ways in which poetry – and creativity more broadly – are integral to our human experience. He speaks about the arts as celebration, and a way of deepening our experience of the universe.

Drew tells us about his own creative process, and the ways in which we can nurture and facilitate our own creativity to come forth in our lives. He shares his perspective on where the transcendent and the personal intersect in the creative process, and how to find the form that gets feeling across to others.

Together Drew and Amisha discuss the connections between the arts and social justice, sharing stories and personal experiences as well as some of their great inspirations. They talk about what it means to be engaged, conscious, in community, and in responsibility at this time. Drew shares his ideas on the power of dream, story, art and action coming together to create change.

“The feeling is not enough. You have to have a form which allows that feeling to resonate with others. This is where the discipleship and commitment to craft comes in. We all have feelings of heartbreak, loss, sorrow, poignancy, joy, outrage, profound gratitude and sadness… But not all of us can put that into a poem that will really move the hearts of others.” ~ Drew Dellinger
