“There’s a tremendous possibility right now that we inhabit in this world. It’s so ludicrous on one plane, that we use our intelligence in the way we use it, and at the same time, just a little switch, and we could be on the other side and make everyone safe and comfortable on this Earth.” Deepti Tewari

About this interview:
Deepti Tewari discovered Sri Aurobindo while yet a teenager. It was his evolutionary world view that organised and formed her subsequent life choices. She moved permanently to Pondicherry in 1975 and soon after to Auroville, the Universal township founded by The Mother in 1968 as an attempt to materialise in a collective human setting Sri Aurobindo’s Integral Yoga. Auroville is a place of research, study and experimentation, transcending all exclusivities, seeking a higher and truer life.
Initially, Deepti immersed herself in various Auroville activities, including the hosting and organising of national and international seminars. In 1985 she was pulled in to do some teaching at Last School, Auroville’s school for teens and young adults. This school is based upon Free Progress, an approach which is not governed by habits, conventions or preconceived ideas and wants to be guided by the soul. Soon an exploration of this education, which sought to awaken the deepest dimensions of consciousness, became a wholehearted preoccupation.
Today, Deepti’s sessions on poetry, literature, culture studies and exploring Sri Aurobindo’s philosophy whether at Last School or at Bharat Nivas, are attended by both teenagers and adults. Additionally, Deepti has represented Auroville, speaking of Sri Aurobindo’s evolutionary philosophy, in seminars and conferences both in India and abroad. For many years she explored the meaning and purpose of Auroville and its central symbol through the ‘Matrimandir Journals’ . Recently her writings on India and Auroville have been published in the journal ‘Bhavishyate’.
