Kerry & Annika from Junky Styling

Self taught designers Annika Sander and Kerry Seager founded Junky Styling in 1997 after being inspired by the prevalence of recycling in places such as San Francisco and Tokyo and the resourcefulness of the people of Vietnam and Thailand. Junky Styling is an innovating design lead label where everything produced is made from recycled textiles of the best quality second hand clothing, which is then deconstructed, re-cut and completely transformed into a new product that belies the former identity of the raw material, such as a men’s suit jacket radically re-designed into a women’s halter dress.

All garments are made in house or carefully outsourced locally. The individual is the focus at Junky as they ensure no 2 garments are the same – they can be cut from the same pattern but the raw materials will always be different. This design concept where no two pieces are the same has lead to Junky being referred to as ‘high fashion street couture’ by Vogue.

The Junky Styling team

In addition to featuring in various events at the V&A Museum, Junky Styling has also exhibited at the Koldinghus Museum in Denmark, created a fashion installation in the Garanti Galeri gallery in Istanbul, held workshops at the Fashion and Textiles Museum and at the V-inspired event and helped the workshop produce the winning designs and mentored the winner of Make Your Mark  in fashion too. Since launching the wholesale collection shown in both London and Paris in 2004, they have secured stockists both nationally and internationally, and can be found in many places between here and Hong Kong. They have been shortlisted for many awards including BA’s Great Briton’s, Cosmopolitan’s Ultimate Women and Vauxhall Fashion Scout.

Their inspiration for the dress they created for Think Act Vote was ‘To transform something simple and a bit masculine into something flirty and feminine.’
